FRIDA GEORGIA YAYOI
Frida Kahlo, Georgia O’Keeffe and Yayoi Kusama are the three artists at the center of this thesis project. While I had long been familiar with their work, it was through reading their letters, diaries and memoirs that I came to feel deeply connected to their spirit, resilience and inner lives.
This project takes the form of a small book that examines each artist's life alongside her work, with a focus on how personal experience informed creative practice. Each chapter transitions into the next through letters written by one artist to another: the Frida Kahlo chapter concludes with a letter to Georgia O'Keeffe, and the Georgia O'Keeffe chapter ends with a letter addressed to Yayoi Kusama who becomes the subject of the final chapter. These intimate exchanges serve both narrative and emotional bridges, guiding the reader from one artist to the next.
By weaving together letters, diaries, memoirs and selected works of art, the project invites readers to engage with these women not only as artists, but as individuals shaped by relationships, warship and resilience. Ultimately, the work aims to reveal their humanity as daughters, sisters, friends and partners, alongside the enduring beauty of their art.
